Bolsa Chica Field Trip--The Sea & Sage chapter of the National Audubon Society will host a field trip to the Bolsa Chica wetlands on Saturday.
A variety of waterfowl and other birds--including skimmers, terns, geese and ducks--are currently at the wetlands. The field trip will include a special section for beginning bird-watchers.
Those who would like to participate are asked to meet at 8 a.m. at the wetland’s ecological reserve, on Pacific Coast Highway about one-half of a mile south of Warner Avenue, across from Bolsa Chica State Beach.
Bay Tours--The Friends of Upper Newport Bay will offer guided tours of the Back Bay area beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
The tours are free. Groups will depart every 15 minutes from Backbay and Eastbluff drives in Newport Beach. The last tour will depart at 10:15 a.m. For information, call (714) 646-8009.
Nursery Nature Walk--Upper Newport Bay will also be the site of a slow-paced walk geared for parents with children under 5 on Monday. Trained docents will lead the walk, which will begin at 10 a.m.
The tour is sponsored by the Upper Newport Bay Regional Park and Ecological Reserve. For information, call (714) 643-1444.
Children’s Program--The Oak Canyon Nature Center in Anaheim will sponsor a Saturday children’s nature program entitled “Digging Into Dinosaurs.â€
The program will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. It is free and open to children ages 6 to 10. The center is at 6700 Walnut Canyon Road. For further information, call (714) 998-8380.
