THOUSAND OAKS : Bone-Marrow Scans to Conclude Today
Today is the final day of bone-marrow screening sponsored by a Thousand Oaks support group and Cal Lutheran University.
Finding a compatible donor is often the only hope for people dying of cancer, but “it’s very difficult to find perfect matches,†said Shirley Lundeen, university director of health services.
More than 9,000 people nationwide, including several in Ventura County, need transplants, Lundeen said.
Today’s drive is being sponsored by the Miracle Match Committee, a support group founded by friends of a Thousand Oaks resident who needs a transplant.
A blood drive will be held at the same time. Both drives will be held from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the main lounge of Cal Lutheran’s Mount Clef Dormitory, 59 Memorial Parkway.
