An Oxnard police officer pleaded not guilty Friday in Ventura County Municipal Court to charges that he kicked a suspect in the head as another officer attempted to handcuff the man.
Officer Kenneth Dellinger is charged with one count of assault for allegedly kicking Guillermo Hernandez, 20, on Sept. 13.
The incident occurred after Hernandez and two other suspects were apprehended near the scene of a convenience store robbery, according to police reports.
Dellinger, a 21-year department veteran, has been suspended with pay until the charges against him are resolved, according to a statement from the Oxnard Police Department.
A jury trial has been set for Nov. 15 in Municipal Court.
