The City Council last week appropriated $167,000 to recruit a new city manager and to compensate former City Manager John Bernardi for unused time off.
Bernardi, who resigned in August to become city manager of Loma Linda, was owed $155,500 for compensatory time, sick leave and vacation accumulated over his more than 20 years of employment with the city.
The council also approved $11,500 for the services of Sacramento-based Ralph Andersen & Associates, the firm that will search for Bernardi’s replacement. No timetable has been announced for filling the vacancy.
The interim duties of the city manager are being handled by Michael Graziano, a former city manager of Los Alamitos.
