Two vice detectives halted a rape in a 4th Avenue canyon and arrested a 22-year-old man, police said.
San Diego Police Detectives Pete Bedrosian and John Rivera, who were on vice patrol, answered a call of a rape in progress about 9:23 p.m. Wednesday, and found a man raping a woman in a canyon in the 2900 block of 4th Avenue, police said.
They arrested Robert Endita, believed to be a fugitive. He was held in County Jail downtown on charges of rape and providing a false name to a police officer, police said.
