A Lithuanian Supreme Court justice said that his newly independent government has suspended the rehabilitation of people sentenced by Soviet courts after World War II on war crimes charges, the New York Times reported. Judge Genadijus Slauta said it was discovered that five exonerations of people convicted of killing Jews were unjustified. He said the court will reverse those cases and review others, the newspaper said. “We were trying to rehabilitate everybody as quickly as possible,†Slauta said. “Now we are sorry we acted so rapidly. We see serious errors were made.†About 35,000 people sentenced after World War II have been rehabilitated.
