A Long Beach police officer was arrested Tuesday on two felony counts stemming from his off-duty shooting of a man during a traffic dispute last month.

Alan B. Ice, 45, was arrested Tuesday afternoon without incident at his Fountain Valley home in connection with the Sept. 28 shooting of Neil Cramer of Santa Ana, said Orange County Deputy Dist. Atty. Guy N. Ormes.

Ice reportedly has told police union officials that his gun went off accidentally, and he mistakenly thought Cramer was reaching for something, possibly a weapon. The patrol officer is charged with assault with a firearm and discharge of a firearm at an occupied motor vehicle, including the special circumstances that he used a firearm and inflicted great bodily injury. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years if convicted.
