Sonora 17, Duarte 6--First-quarter touchdown runs by Scott Speer and Todd Fletcher held up as Sonora defeated Duarte at La Habra High School.
Sonora (2-2) scored on its first possession when Speer ran into the end zone from 13 yards out with just over nine minutes left in the first quarter.
Fletcher, who led the Raiders with 79 yards in 16 carries, increased the lead to 14-0 with 3:55 left in the first quarter on a 17-yard touchdown run.
Sonora scored again with 6:57 left when Speer made a 40-yard field goal to put the Raiders ahead, 17-0.
Duarte (0-3-1), coached by former La Habra and Canyon High School Coach Bob Rau, rallied for a touchdown with one second left when quarterback Nathaniel Jacquet threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to Bruce Parker. The play was set up when Jacquet, also a defensive back, intercepted a pass.
Duarte outgained Sonora, 249-179. Each team turned the ball over four times.
