ATM Photo Brings Arrest of Holdup Suspect

MAITLAND, Fla. — A dramatic photograph taken by a bank security camera at an automated teller machine last month resulted in charges being filed Thursday against a gunman shown robbing a customer.
The photo was distributed to news media by Maitland police, who asked the public’s help in identifying the gunman, shown holding a pistol against the customer’s neck.
“We started getting calls within 30 minutes after the picture was shown on television” Wednesday night, Maitland police spokesman Dave Robb said.
Of about 30 calls, six identified the gunman by name. Detectives traced him Thursday to the Orange County jail in Orlando, Fla., where he was being held on traffic and cocaine possession charges.
Tillman Wheeler, 37, will be charged with armed robbery and use of a firearm in a felony, “and I don’t think we’ll have much of a problem proving that,” Robb said.
