Diva Date: Soprano Mirella Freni, 56, will sing Maddalena in Giordano’s “Andrea Chenier” for the first time in her long career when she makes her Music Center Opera debut in 1994, according to her management. Scheduled in the title role is tenor Placido Domingo. MCO officials say the season remains unconfirmed at this time and offered no further details about the production. An infrequent performer on local stages, Freni’s well-received Ambassador Auditorium recital last year was her first here in seven years.
