New Directions for California
In response to your editorial “Wake Up, California: Let’s Get This State Moving Again,†Sept. 16) suggesting new directions for California: Obviously the media need to lead the way. Some suggestions:
First, to prevent more “business flightâ€:
-- Don’t turn to added business taxes, paperwork, bureaucracy and government regulation to solve problems.
-- Don’t publicize every honest mistake or accident as though it were a premeditated crime.
-- Do accentuate the good things that businesses do without being coerced, sued, or legislated against.
Only successful and profitable California businesses are the solution for problems of unemployment, tax receipts, low living standards and decreasing home ownership.
Second, to help solve California’s particular environmental problems:
-- Publicize all of the facts; scientific, economic, legal, moral and humanitarian, not just those furnished by national media or “environmental†groups with biased viewpoints and a financial need to increase their memberships.
