Burned Man Remains in Critical Condition
A Val Verde man remained in critical condition Sunday after suffering burns and smoke inhalation in a small brush fire, authorities said.
Wilmer Barnes, 26, suffered burns over 34% of his body in the blaze on a hillside east of Del Valle Road and Silver Street in Val Verde, authorities said. Barnes’ motorcycle was destroyed in the fire, which occurred about 11:50 p.m. Saturday, said Sgt. Mike Morton of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Barnes was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia before being flown to County-USC Medical Center. He was in critical but stable condition in the hospital’s burn unit, hospital spokeswoman Adelaida De La Cerda said.
Morton said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
