Foothill 21, Marina 14--Nathan Kuchera’s 90-yard return of the game’s opening kickoff staked Foothill to a 7-0 lead and led the way at Westminster High.
Kuchera also turned out to be the star of Foothill’s defense with two interceptions. Marina turned the ball over five times--including four interceptions by Tim Chaix--in a mistake-filled game that also included 13 penalties.
Foothill took a 14-0 lead, but Marina countered with two touchdowns to tie it 14-14 in the second quarter. Halfback Robert Lark ran 54 yards with 5:19 left in the half for the winning points.
The second half was uneventful, with both offenses bogged down by penalties and turnovers.
