Ventura Council Hopefuls Backed
Two slow-growth groups on Friday endorsed an incumbent councilman and a write-in candidate for the Ventura City Council.
Three council seats will be decided in the November election.
The Alliance for Ventura’s Future and the Voters’ Coalition of Ventura announced that they will back incumbent Deputy Mayor Donald Villeneuve and write-in candidate Steve Bennett.
Bennett was president of the alliance and board member of the coalition, but he stepped down from both posts when he announced his write-in candidacy last week, he said.
Both groups are planning door-to-door campaigns for Bennett and Villeneuve on Oct. 20.
Villeneuve also has won the endorsement of the Sierra Club’s Sespe Group, which plans to announce its support of the incumbent on Oct. 9.
