Star Attractions: : Sands of time

Moonlight Beach is open from 4 a.m. to 2 a.m. so star gazing at the beach--if you can see a star behind the usual coastal clouds--is possible late into the night.
If the stars don’t show up, there are fire rings to set a different mood. Alcohol, though, is forbidden.
And please note that the parking lot closes at 10 p.m.
The beach, which has a full complement of facilities from snack bars to bathrooms, is technically a state beach but the city of Encinitas began operating it this year.
