Glendale : Transit Center Study
The City Council on Tuesday allocated up to $125,000 in Proposition A gas tax funds to study potential commercial and retail uses around the proposed transportation center at 440 W. Cerritos Ave.
The city in 1989 purchased the historic Southern Pacific Railroad Station, now an Amtrak depot, for conversion into a commuter transit center. Plans are to build a parking garage and other amenities to encourage use of public transportation.
A consultant will be asked to define compatible uses for the land surrounding the transportation center, which currently is a mix of residential, commercial and industrial property. Results of the study are expected by the end of the year.
