FLICKS FILM AND VIDEO FILE : A New ‘Cyrano’ : Ojai society’s show will go on, despite sewer problems. Libraries will screen ‘Emigrants,’ ‘Zlateh’ and ‘The Lorax.’

Last week’s Ojai Film Society presentation of “Gone with the Wind” almost was gone with the sewage. Damage to the sewer system at the Ojai Playhouse shut the theater down for about a week and the Saturday and Sunday matinees were in question for a while. (The messy situation also closed MKs restaurant, which shares restrooms with the theater.) But all came off as planned.

The Film Society will continue this Sunday, barring any unforeseen backups at the Ojai Playhouse, with a showing of the 1990 French version of “Cyrano de Bergerac.”

This film, based on the romantic play by Edmond Rostand, stars Gerard Depardieu as Cyrano and Anne Brochet as his cousin Roxanne, with whom Cyrano is in love. Roxanne, of course, is in love with someone else, ineloquent Christian de Neuvillete, played by Vincent Perez. Cyrano plays out his romantic feelings by writing love prose for de Neuvillete.

Thousand Oaks Library’s Classic Cinema presentation Saturday will be the Swedish film “The Emigrants” (1971), starring Max von Sydow and Liv Ullmann. It follows a peasant farmer, his family and other Swedish citizens as they come to America in the 1800s. Show time is 7 p.m. The library is at 1401 E. Janss Road.

On Wednesday the Ray D. Prueter Library in Port Hueneme will present two films based on books by two authors with completely different styles--Isaac Bashevis Singer and Dr. Seuss.

First there is Singer’s folk tale “Zlateh, the Goat.” It is the story of a boy who sets out to take his goat to the butcher. By the end of the story each has saved the other’s life.

Then there is Seuss’ “The Lorax,” a story with an ecological theme, told in typical Seuss fashion. It stars the Barbaloots, the Swommee Swans and some Humming Fish.

The first film is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Admission is free. The library is at 510 Park Ave. For more information call 486-5460.

Placid Lake Sherwood was shaken up a bit last week when the CBS television show “Jake and the Fatman” came to town. A crew did some exterior and interior filming along Stafford Road and took shots of cars going up driveways. There were even a few gunshots.

And speaking of filming in unincorporated parts of Ventura County--a company called Tough Boys Inc. spent one night at a vacant tract home on Tapo Canyon Road this month to shoot a portion of the movie “Stepfather III.”

Yes, it’s the third installation of that ever-popular “Stepfather” series about a seemingly loving family man who turns psychotic. Actually, the original was popular among critics, but not with American audiences.
