LA PALMA : Skateboard, Skate Ban OKd for Centers

The City Council has approved a law that will allow commercial centers to outlaw skateboarding and roller skating on their properties.
The ordinance, passed unanimously Tuesday night, takes effect Oct. 17. It will allow businesses to outlaw skating activities by posting signs, and empowers police to issue citations to violators.
The council considered the law after property managers of the 42-acre Centerpointe La Palma business and shopping center complained to the city that skateboarders were damaging benches, walls and other property, and creating a liability risk in the event of injury.
La Palma already bans skateboarding outside of City Hall and at Central Park.
