William B. Doeren, senior vice president and chief operating officer of AMC Entertainment Inc., resigned from the company “to pursue other interests,” the company said in a statement. The Kansas City, Mo.-based movie theater circuit, the largest independent operator in the country with 1,600 screens, did not give a reason for Doeren’s resignation.
AMC has had several setbacks in recent years, including abandoning a theater expansion in Europe. And last January, it settled a longstanding dispute with the Internal Revenue Service. AMC President Edward D. Durwood will oversee day-to-day operations until a replacement is named.
