Warning Issued on Bogus Fund Appeals for Police

Glendale police are urging residents not to make donations to telephone solicitors who claim to be raising money for the Police Department.
In recent months, about a dozen residents have reported that they have received suspicious telephone requests for money that purportedly would be used to buy radio equipment and motorcycles for Glendale police, said Sgt. James Fitzgerald.
“That is completely ridiculous, because we do not solicit donations for anything that would be in the normal city budget,” he said. Fitzgerald said residents who receive such calls should withhold donations and notify police.
