IBM to Unveil New Mainframes: The products, to be announced next Wednesday, will fill gaps in the company’s latest line of mainframe computers, sandwiching new models between those unveiled a year ago, analysts said. The new hardware and software should help IBM secure its lead in mainframes, they said. The offerings could also lure buyers at a time when the struggling economy is cutting into big-ticket spending and powerful desktops are emerging as a cheaper option.
