Blame Misplaced in Girl’s Mauling by Mountain Lion
I was shocked to learn that Orange County was legally responsible in the mountain lion attack on Laura Small for not posting a warning sign.
Two reasons: First, an individual assumes a significant amount of personal responsibility in every action taken and this personal responsibility increases (not decreases) when actions are taken in less predictable environments, such as wilderness parks.
Second, the “warning sign†logic taken a bit further becomes ridiculous. “Warning: ill-fitting shoes worn in this wilderness park might cause blisters.â€
