Northeast Buys More Airliners: Northwest Airlines said it has ordered four Airbus Industrie A340 aircraft and taken options on six more valued at a total of $1.4 billion. The nation’s fourth-largest airline also said it has options on two additional Boeing 747-400 aircraft with a total value of $340 million. The order brings to 30 the number of A340s and to 12 the number of B747-400s that Northwest has either ordered or taken an option to buy.
