A 78-year-old woman accused of shooting her ill husband to death in a mercy killing was released from jail without bail after telling police it was “a brave thing I’ve done.” Audrey Kielpinski is accused of killing her husband of 61 years, Kash Kielpinski, as he lay in a hospital bed at Redding Medical Center after suffering a stroke. Kielpinski told Redding police after her arrest Sunday that she had been contemplating the shooting since finding her 83-year-old husband on the floor after the stroke. “He’s been suffering for five weeks,” she said in court documents. “I had to do it, I can’t stand to see him suffer, I love him too much,” she told a hospital employee, according to the documents. Kielpinski is charged with murder with a special allegation of the use of a firearm. She has not entered a plea. Documents showed that she told a nurse that she had shot her husband. “If he is still alive I’ll shoot him again. I talked to my son about this. It’s a brave thing I’ve done,” she is quoted as saying.
