An 18-year-old passenger in a car was wounded by gunshots fired from another car on Beach Boulevard, Sheriff’s Lt. Richard J. Olson said Wednesday. He identified the victim as George Patron Meza.
Frank Reusch, 32, of Stanton, the driver with Meza, told deputies that he heard gunshots as he drove north on Beach Boulevard south of Chapman Avenue about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday. Reusch said the bullets shattered the car’s windshield and side window.
Deputies arrived and stopped Reusch and Meza, who were speeding away, Olson said. Paramedics were summoned after deputies noticed that Meza had been shot in the right side and right arm.
He was was treated at UCI Medical Center in Orange and released.
Olson said deputies believe that the shooting was gang-related and that two other cars were involved. One of them, a Honda Prelude, was found in a parking lot near Beach and Garden Grove boulevards. A small bullet hole was discovered on the side of the car and blood was found inside, Olson said. He said the car was reported stolen.
An older model white Buick Regal, believed to be the third vehicle involved, is still being sought, Olson said.
No gun was found in Reusch’s car.
