New Weight Rules at American Air: An agreement that relaxes standards for the maximum weight of American Airlines flight attendants was approved by a federal judge. Lawyers for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and Assn. of Professional Flight Attendants had sued, saying previous standards were discriminatory. A 5-foot-5 female attendant, aged 20 to 24, can weigh 133 pounds or less (up from 129), and 145 pounds or less if she is 40 to 44. For a 6-foot-tall male attendant, the range goes up to 197 pounds (from 180), depending on age. A dozen flight attendants terminated under the old guidelines will be reinstated.
