Teledyne to Trim Operations: Teledyne Inc. said it expects to sell, close or transfer subsidiaries that accounted for about $500 million of its $3.4 billion in sales last year. The cuts are expected to be made before the end of the year and will result in a special charge against 1991 earnings. The effect on employees, a company spokesman said, would depend on how Teledyne ultimately disposes of each unit. Although the Los Angeles conglomerate declined to specify which of its nearly 100 companies would be affected, it said operations that do not fit its overall focus on technology-based businesses would be hit by the action.
