The ‘American Way’ at the Pan Am Games

Mike Downey’s self-indulgent diatribe about his accommodations at the Pan American Games could pass as humor if only there weren’t tens of thousands of homeless Americans in the United States.
Perhaps The Times could better have spent Downey’s per diem in its own back yard, with a donation to the Salvation Army or the Red Cross. I’m sure Downey would gladly turn down an all-expenses-paid trip to help his countrymen.
