3 Arrested After Hotel Holdup
ORANGE — Three young men were arrested Tuesday morning in connection with a robbery and auto theft at a Hollywood hotel just hours before, authorities said.
Authorities said several men entered the Best Western Hotel in Hollywood early Tuesday, bound, blindfolded and robbed two German tourists and stole their car.
At 5:30 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Craig Dettinger was cruising west on the Riverside Freeway near Weir Canyon Road when he came upon a disabled car, CHP spokesman Mel Baker said.
“The driver told the officer the hood (of the car) popped up and he just closed it and they would be on their way,†Baker said.
Dettinger allowed the three young men to leave, but followed them. “The driver accelerated to 75 m.p.h.†and attempted to evade the officer, Baker said.
Dettinger followed the car onto the Costa Mesa Freeway and finally to a service station after it exited at Nohl Ranch Road, Baker said.
Arrested on suspicion of robbery, auto theft and possession of stolen property was Michael Delvaughn Jackson, 18, of Los Angeles.
