Off-Duty Officer Kills Man in Car Theft Attempt
An off-duty Culver City police officer Tuesday fatally shot an armed man who confronted the officer at an Inglewood intersection and attempted to steal his vehicle at gunpoint, authorities said.
The officer, dressed in street clothes, was waiting at a traffic signal at Fairview and La Cienega boulevards at about 12:30 p.m. when a man carrying a duffel bag approached the driver’s side door, police said. The man brandished a revolver and demanded that the driver get out of the car and hand over the keys, police said.
After opening the car door, the officer fired, killing the suspect at the scene. Neither man was identified Tuesday.
