Plane Makes Emergency Landing for Baby’s Birth
A small plane made an emergency landing at Santa Monica Airport Tuesday so that a pregnant woman on board could deliver her impatient cargo, authorities said.
Deanna Williams, 27, of Ontario went into labor as her husband, Dean, was flying their small plane from Ontario to the Los Angeles area, airport officials said. When the couple’s Cessna 182 landed about 7:40 a.m. at Santa Monica Municipal Airport, paramedics were waiting at the taxiway, said airport operations manager Tim Walsh.
“She went into labor about 10 miles out, and the husband radioed that her contractions were about a minute apart,†Walsh said. Deanna Williams was taken to Santa Monica Hospital Medical Center and gave birth to a healthy girl at 7:57 a.m., said a hospital spokeswoman.
