A 62-year-old man wanted in the rape of an 11-year-old girl in Louisiana was arrested in Los Angeles Wednesday, three years after the alleged crime occurred, authorities said.
Sheriff’s deputies with the department’s Metro Vice Bureau arrested Cornelius Chambers at a mobile home in the 11000 block of Ruthelen Avenue in the unincorporated Athens area about 6:30 a.m., Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Mead said.
Chambers was named in a no-bail fugitive warrant charging him with the aggravated rape of the 11-year-old in Shreveport, La., three years ago, Mead said. The break in the case came after Chambers’ photograph was broadcast on a local crime watch program in Louisiana, he said. On July 22, an anonymous caller told Shreveport police that Chambers was in Los Angeles and provided a phone number where the fugitive could be reached.
