Bill Dobson, an assistant at Occidental College the past four seasons, has joined Cal State Fullerton’s football staff as an offensive line coach.

Dobson, 32, was a four-year starter on Occidental’s offensive line from 1977-81 and twice earned all-conference honors.

Dobson, a San Diego Ramona High School graduate, spent four years (1982-85) as an offensive assistant at New Mexico State and one year (1986) as an offensive assistant at San Francisco State before returning to Occidental in 1987.

Dobson replaces former Titan offensive line coach Don Morel, who resigned last winter to take a job at the University of La Verne. First-year Titan players report to practice Sunday.

Fullerton Coach Gene Murphy said four community college recruits, including two who were probable starters, have not completed their Associate of Arts degree requirements and are ineligible to play this season.

Shannon Thompson, a receiver who caught 44 passes for 650 yards and scored eight touchdowns at El Camino College last season, and Jeremiah Clark, a 6-foot-5, 250-pound defensive tackle from Moorpark College, will not enroll at Fullerton this semester.

“They’re very good JC football players--we were expecting them to play a lot,†Murphy said. “We’ll try to get them in school next spring.â€

The other two academic casualties are Lester Larry, a defensive tackle from Antelope Valley College, and Keith Roberts, a defensive end from San Diego City.

Reggie Carter, a running back from Canyon Springs High School, will enroll in school but will be ineligible to play.
