Chula Vista
A 23-year-old Navy man who was a passenger on a motorcycle traveling more than 90 m.p.h. was killed late Saturday after the driver struck another car from behind, throwing both riders to the pavement, authorities said.
Christopher S. Charley died after the motorcycle struck another car about 9 p.m. in a northbound lane of Interstate 5 in Chula Vista. The California Highway Patrol said the bike had been traveling at high speed when it overtook the car and slammed into the back of it.
The driver of the motorcycle, Gary Santee, 21, also a sailor, was in stable condition Sunday with a dislocated elbow, a fractured right arm, asphalt burns and an ear injury, a UC San Diego Medical Center spokesperson said.
No charges have been filed in the incident, and there were no reports of injuries of the car’s occupants.
