Is it so astonishing that demonstrations took place in Athens during the visit of the President of the United States (Part A, July 19)? Is it any wonder that the Greek Parliament did not applaud when George Bush directed it to solve the Cyprus problem within the year?
I’m sure the Greeks, as do I, find it ironic that while America, under the pretext of democracy, bounded to the aid of little Kuwait after it was invaded by the bully next door, it cared hardly at all and did less 17 years ago when a parallel situation occurred: Turkey invaded Cyprus. So why is America so concerned now about Cyprus? Has oil been discovered there?
