Hacienda Heights : Cityhood Effort Advances
A cityhood drive in this unincorporated community advanced one step further Thursday when a county agency announced it had verified more than 6,000 signatures on a petition calling for a cityhood election.
The county Local Agency Formation Commission, which oversees incorporation matters, verified 6,407 out of 6,707 signatures submitted to the agency last month by cityhood proponents. Signatures of at least 25% of the area’s registered voters were required for a cityhood election. The verified signatures represent 28% of the 22,764 voters in the area.
The commission now will conduct a study to determine whether Hacienda Heights would collect enough property and sales taxes to support incorporation. A cityhood election could be scheduled as early as June, 1992, said Jim Baker, a leader of the incorporation drive.
