California IN BRIEF : WOODLAKE : Citrus Workers Get Surplus Army Food

Food that was not consumed by American soldiers during the Persian Gulf War has begun arriving in the San Joaquin Valley, where it will feed citrus workers left jobless by last winter’s freeze. The first shipment was sent from Sharpe Army Depot in San Joaquin County to a warehouse at Woodlake in Tulare County. “It was real hectic. . . . We gave out a lot of food,†said Shirley Crisanto, a volunteer with the Woodlake First Presbyterian Church.
