World IN BRIEF : AFRICA : U.N. Tells of Rapid Spread of Cholera

Cholera is spreading through parts of Africa at a “catastrophic” rate, killing more people than the current epidemic in Latin America, the World Health Organization said in Geneva. The U.N. agency said it has received reports of 45,159 cases and 3,488 deaths from 10 African nations so far this year. By comparison, 2,618 of the 251,553 reported cases in South America were fatal.
