Castle & Cooke to Become Dole Food Co. Castle & Cooke Inc. will ask shareholders to change the company name to Dole, saying it’s better known for fruit and vegetables than its real estate business. The Dole name is used worldwide by customers, the general public and employees of the Los Angeles-based company, Chief Executive David H. Murdock said. Murdock considered, then decided against, selling Dole last year. He said the company will continue to use “Castle & Cooke” prominently in its Hawaii, California and Nevada real estate development businesses. Formal approval of the name change is expected at the company’s annual meeting July 30 in Honolulu.
