Three people were killed Sunday when a tree toppled onto a minivan near Table Mountain Campground, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The accident occurred about 6:30 p.m. as a minivan traveled on California 2 near Big Pines, officials said.
It was not known why the tree fell, CHP spokesman Calvin Aubrey said.
Three people inside the van were killed, and three others were injured and airlifted to area hospitals, Aubrey said.
The victims were described as a Latino woman in her early 20s, a 10-year-old child and an infant who died en route to the hospital. Their names were not immediately released.
