World IN BRIEF : JORDAN : House Votes to Halt U.S. Military Aid

The House voted in Washington to cut off military aid to Jordan in reprisal for its support of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein during the Persian Gulf War. The lawmakers gave President Bush the authority to waive the cutoff if certain conditions are met, principally bilateral negotiation with Israel. Meantime, in Amman, King Hussein named a new government that is expected to press Arab-Israeli peace efforts.
