A transient was in critical condition Tuesday after being bludgeoned with a pipe by two attackers in North Park, police said.
Richard Holm, 41, suffered serious head injuries and was on life support systems at Mercy Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Police found Holm lying in the street on University Avenue at Utah Street about 11:30 p.m. Monday, and paramedics took him to the hospital, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Witnesses told police that Holm was beaten by two men wearing martial arts clothing, Robinson said. The men struck Holm repeatedly with a plastic pipe before fleeing, he said.
Police have no suspects in custody, and the motive for the attack is not known, Robinson said.
