Two people escaped with minor injuries when fire raged through their Compton home Tuesday, authorities said. Fire broke out in the single-story house in the 15400 block of South White Avenue about 9:30 a.m.
Firefighters arrived to find the older-style home engulfed in flames, said Nancy Alvarez of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. At least 15 firefighters needed about half an hour to put out the fire. A 57-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were taken to Charter Suburban Hospital in Paramount for treatment of minor injuries.
Both suffered smoke inhalation and the man was also treated for first- and second-degree burns on his face. The house was destroyed.
Fire inspectors were sifting through the remains in an attempt to determine the cause.
