Monier Roof Tile Buys Competitor’s California Assets
ORANGE — Monier Roof Tile in Orange, which bills itself as the world’s largest maker of roofing tile, has acquired the California assets of one of its largest competitors for $11 million.
Monier has purchased two Marley Roof Tile plants in California. One plant, in the Northern California town of Hollister, will be closed. A second plant, in San Bernardino, is being retooled to manufacture a wood shingle replacement called Premium Duralite.
“Our compelling interest in acquiring Marley’s assets was our expansion into the tile re-roofing market,†Monier President Dick Lyons said.
Both companies are subsidiaries of British concerns. Monier is part of Redland PLC, while Marley is part of Marley PLC.
