BASEBALL : DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Parrish Takes Injury Sitting Down
Catcher Lance Parrish, who strained a tendon in his right forearm Sunday, didn’t play Monday. However, he was available for emergency or pinch-hitting duty. His status is day to day.
“It’s about the same,” Parrish said. “It’s still sore. I hope it won’t be more than a couple of days. I’m coming back tomorrow and we’ll see what happens.”
Parrish was replaced by Ron Tingley, who hit the second home run of his career last Saturday.
After Monday night’s game, the Angels optioned outfielder Ruben Amaro to triple-A Edmonton and recalled infielder Bobby Rose.
Amaro, who was summoned from Edmonton June 4, appeared in one game as a pinch-runner. Through June 9, Rose was hiting .304 for the Trappers in 34 games.
Commissioner Fay Vincent, in California to attend owners’ meetings this week, said he’s awaiting the fate of a bill in the Arizona legislature that would provide funding for improvements to Cactus League stadiums. That bill affects the Angels, whose move to Tempe depends partly on improvements on Tempe Diablo Stadium. The Seattle Mariners are leaving Tempe but haven’t found a new home.
“We’re hoping Seattle stays in Arizona,” Vincent said. “If Seattle leaves, that would be a big blow.” However, expansion might provide an addition to the league. “Denver would be an obvious candidate for the Cactus League,” Vincent said.
