Trustees Criticized for Bowers Removal
The recent action by the Ventura County Community College District Board of Trustees to dismiss Dr. Stanley Bowers as president of Moorpark College is quite baffling. I have trouble understanding why the district would want to fire a man who has had such a positive impact on our college campus.
Since Dr. Bowers has been president of Moorpark College, we have been able to obtain a football stadium, an observatory and a new communications building. In addition, I have seen the morale of the faculty, staff and students on our campus mushroom. He has taken it upon himself to know every employee on a first-name basis from the custodians on up.
He has also been very supportive of our students, encouraging their various clubs and activities around campus.
It’s unfortunate that the minor transgressions of one man, which are ambiguous at best, should blind them to the reality of Dr. Bowers’ excellent tenure as president of Moorpark College.
