Man Dies on Freeway After Car Hits Tree
A man lost control of his car Tuesday on the Ventura Freeway just north of Griffith Park and the auto struck a tree and burst into flames, killing the driver.
The identity of the man was not immediately known, and authorities had not determined whether anyone was with him, said dispatcher Myra Frazier of the California Highway Patrol.
The accident took place in the westbound freeway lanes, near Zoo Drive, at 7:44 p.m. Frazier said the burning vehicle touched off a brush fire, and CHP officers closed the two right lanes to traffic to make room for the emergency equipment.
