Special Art Sales: Sotheby’s will resume specialized sales of Latin American art this fall in response to clients’ “strong preference,� the New York auction house announced Tuesday. Sotheby’s closed its Latin American department in January and incorporated a few Latin American pieces in May’s modern and contemporary art sales. But those works did not do well and Christie’s snapped up the bulk of business--including a $1.65-million self-portrait by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
