OXNARD : Baby Girl Dies in Water-Filled Bucket

An 11-month-old Oxnard girl died early Wednesday after she apparently fell into a pail of water that had been used to mop the floor and drowned, police said.

Laura Albor was pronounced dead at Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles at 3 a.m., a hospital spokeswoman said.

The accident occurred about 11 a.m. Tuesday while Laura’s aunt, Aurora Mendez, 21, was baby-sitting, police said. Laura’s mother, Graciela Albor, was shopping at the time, Oxnard police said. Mendez told police that she went into the bedroom for a few minutes, leaving Laura unattended in the living room. When she came out of the bedroom, Mendez said, she found Laura headfirst in a five-gallon plastic bucket half full of water in the kitchen, police said. The water had a high concentration of bleach in it, police said.
