1 Dead, 2 Badly Hurt in Crash; Driver Arrested
One woman was killed and two others were seriously injured early Saturday when a luxury sedan driven by a suspected drunk driver swerved into the path of an oncoming sports car, Los Angeles police said.
A Lincoln Town Car and a Chevrolet Corvette collided at 2:20 a.m. at Devonshire Street and Oakdale Avenue in Chatsworth, said Officer Ed Pednaau. He said the Town Car, driven by Josephine L. Pomeranz, 65, of Encino, was traveling east on Devonshire Street when it started to make a left turn north to Oakdale Avenue in the path of the oncoming Corvette.
A 49-year-old woman who was riding in the front passenger seat of the Town Car died at the scene. Another passenger, a 59-year-old woman who was sitting in the back seat of the Town Car, was taken to Holy Cross Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition Saturday.
Their identities were not released pending notification of relatives.
The driver of the Corvette, Delores McDaniel, 44, of Chatsworth, suffered serious head trauma and was taken to Granada Hills Community Hospital, where she was listed in serious condition Saturday, Pednaau said.
Pomeranz was treated for minor injuries. She was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and drunk driving, he said.
